Our Habitat for Humanity Build has begun. Calling it Apostle Build, there are 12 area churches involved in the multi-month project. Your help is needed as we build a home for a local family.
Join us! Contact Amy Newlan at amy@newlan.com to sign up for a shift on December 11 or December 18.
Below are pictures from days 1 through 4. Join us! Habitat for Humanity of Denton County works in partnership with God and people, from all walks of life. Habitat houses are built by volunteers with donated funds and materials and then sold to deserving families with no-interest mortgages. AUMC is partnering with this awesome organization and several Denton County Methodist Churches to build a Habitat House this Fall. Each sponsoring organization is responsible for a percentage of the total cost of the build. AUMC is responsible for $6,780. The target for ground-breaking on the Habitat House is mid-September 2010. In order to fund AUMC’s portion of the build cost, we are “selling” the building materials needed in the actual construction of the Habitat House. Click HERE if you'd like to purchase materials. The opportunities to help in this exciting project are numerous. Not only will there be times for the donning of hard hats and hammering of nails, but there are several positions of leadership, both before and during the build. Some positions may require a certain level of professional expertise: house and crew leaders ideally should have a construction background; and an accountant to keep track of all expenditures and budget matters. Volunteer and food coordinators ensure that volunteer slots are filled and that these volunteers eat! Some leadership roles happen before the build (purchasing agent) and others only at the build site (site safety coordinator, tool trailer supervisor). A family services coordinator works directly with the partner family to help with some of the more personal selections (paint color, flooring, cabinets, etc.) – and this person also sees to it that the partner family fulfills their sweat equity hours!
If you are interested in filling one of these positions or volunteering some of your own sweat equity, please contact: Russell Kelly, Amy Newlan or Debbie Pratt.
