The doctors would tell us he may never wake up—that he may be in a vegetative state the rest of his life, but I refused to believe that because I know I serve a God of miracles. I would just tell myself, "I am not moved by what I see or hear. I'm only moved by the word of God". I also had Matthew 19:26 on Todd's board in his ICU room that reads, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger! Is that true or completely bogus? I get it. If whatever you are going through makes you stronger in the long run, than it was worth it. But what about those other times that don’t make any sense to you? Those times when the situation seems to take pieces of you with it? Then what?
Vulnerability is a frightening thing. Maybe we are so engaged by reality shows because of the courageousness of the participants in being so open and exposed. We see their strengths, identify with their weaknesses, and understand their dark moments. Many of us do not feel so sure about letting ourselves be so clearly seen. We cross our arms, withdraw from risks, take another drink, or have exaggerated ourselves and our lives so much so that they are unrecognizable.
